Since 18 October 2004, British citizens, who were 16 years of age or older at the end of the war, could get a free 10-year passport or renew their old one. This was to replace the old one-year free passport scheme for veterans.
Additionally,
there is no additional charge for applying for this free passport by completing the paper form. People who are not eligible for this free passport have to pay a higher price point if they want to apply for their passport by paper form.
Who is eligible?
You can get or renew a British passport for free if you are a British national born on, or before, 2 September 1929.
