More about remembrance
Remembering the Korean War
This year marks 70 years since fighting in the Korean War came to an end.
27th July is the anniversary of the armistice of what many call ‘the Forgotten War’. It was overshadowed by the end of the Second World War and the subsequent ‘Cold War’, and yet the sacrifice of the allied Armed Forces was extremely high, and its legacy still has a global impact.
Windrush 75
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the ship Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks, Essex.
The ship has become symbolic of the generation who travelled from the Caribbean to settle in, and help rebuild, Britain in the decades after the Second World War.
Remembering National Service
Sixty years ago, the last of two million young British men finished their two years' of National Service conscription.
We look back and celebrate their experiences, sacrifices and review the lasting impact of this era on British society.
