Like any new subject we believe that it's vital that children learn about Remembrance from an early age. This is why we have developed Key Stage 1 Remembrance products for children between the ages of 4-7 years old.
The products we have created talk about service and conflict in a relevant, age appropriate, and engaging way, allowing children to explore the historical differences between wartime society and today. Creative writing challenges, stimulating discussion and educational worksheets help them build a picture of a bygone world that continues to shape the world they live in.
The Royal British Legion has created a suite of exciting, easy and free tools for teachers and educators to use to begin teaching young children about Remembrance. The suite includes:
- Tools suitable for leading Literacy, History and PSHE lessons
- National Literacy Trust approved materials to enhance History and English lessons around the subject of Remembrance
- Themed creative writing resource packs
- Lesson plans encouraging students to read, discuss and write their own Remembrance poetry
- PowerPoint presentations
- Worksheets
- Glossaries
- Writing templates
