Learn more about Poppy Appeal

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Poppy Appeal. If you would like to find out more about volunteering with us, take a look at our FAQs below.

What happens after I register?

Once you register, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know we’ve received your application. After that, a member of our Poppy Appeal team will get in touch. This first conversation is a great chance for us to get to know you, share more about our Poppy Appeal roles, and answer any questions you may have. We’ll then guide you through the next steps.

I've applied, but haven't heard anything

After submitting your application, we aim to be in touch within a few days. Please note that response times may be slightly longer during the Appeal. Once that's taken place, your local Poppy Appeal Organiser will then contact you to coordinate collections in your area.

If you haven't heard from us for your initial conversation, or if it's been a while since that took place and you haven't yet heard from your local Poppy Appeal Organiser, please email [email protected] or call 0345 845 1945 and we'll be happy to help.

How much time do I need to give as a Poppy Appeal Organiser?

This is a year-round volunteer role with opportunities to fundraise and raise awareness throughout the year. The busiest period is the two weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday, where regular time is needed before and after the appeal. But the time you commit outside of this is flexible and chosen by you.

The exact commitment depends on the size of your local area and will be discussed during your first meeting with your Poppy Appeal Manager, who'll support and guide you throughout your volunteering.

How much time do I need to give as a Collector?

Being a Poppy Appeal Collector is very flexible; you can give as much or as little time as you’re able. Many volunteers offer a couple of hours at a local supermarket or community location, while others help across several days of the appeal. Your Poppy Appeal Organiser will work with you to find a slot that fits around your other commitments.

Can I volunteer with a friend or family member?

Yes. You're welcome to volunteer alongside a friend or family member during the Poppy Appeal. Simply ensure that both of you have submitted separate applications and inform your local Poppy Appeal Organiser or Relationship Manager when they get in touch, who will then try to accommodate your request, where possible. The only stipulation is that family members cannot be responsible for counting cash together.

Can I volunteer with a group or organisation?

Yes. We welcome groups and organisations to join us and collect together during the appeal. The application form gives you the option to let us know if you’re volunteering on behalf of an organisation or group – simply select yes and share your group/organisation name. A member of the Poppy Appeal team will then be in touch to confirm more information and next steps.

Can I volunteer if I’m under 18?

If you are under 18, please arrange for a parent or guardian to apply on your behalf, as you will need to be accompanied while collecting. All under-18s must be supervised by an adult who has been authorised by their parent or guardian.

Poppy Appeal Organisers must be aged 18 or over.

If I am already in contact with my Poppy Appeal Organiser, can I volunteer again this year without registering again?

Yes. If you’re already in touch with your Poppy Appeal Organiser, you can volunteer again without re-registering. Just let them know you’d like to volunteer again this year, and they’ll keep in touch with updates and local opportunities. Thank you for choosing to volunteer again, your continued support means so much to us and the Armed Forces Community.

What if I’m unsure about the area I want to volunteer in?

If you’re unsure, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, we can talk you through the different Poppy Appeal roles and answer any questions you may have. You can contact us on [email protected] or call us on 0345 845 1945.

You can also explore other volunteering opportunities beyond the Poppy Appeal here.

You can also find answers to more general volunteering questions in our Volunteering FAQs. If you've got a question that hasn't been answered, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or call us on 0345 845 1945
