This year the Legion is asking the nation to remember together all those from different cultures and nationalities who have served and sacrificed in the British Armed Forces and as a show of their support.
EFL clubs will once again wear special-edition shirts embroidered with a poppy in matches played in the lead-up to Remembrance weekend and the majority of EFL Championship clubs will have these match worn and signed shirts available to purchase via our new auction partner, MatchWornShirt.
“We are proud - to host this year’s EFL poppy shirt auctions in support of The Royal British Legion.”
Bob Zonderwijk, co-founder of MatchWornShirt said: “We are thrilled - and proud - to host this year’s EFL poppy shirt auctions in support of The Royal British Legion.
We run things a little differently than the past years. By starting all auctions live from kick-off and by targeting a global audience we aim to seize as much momentum with the fans as we can. Real-time shirt auctions create a real buzz and new fan experience around matchday and we are confident that this will boost the auctions’ proceeds for the Legion.”
Money raised from the shirt auction online will help the Legion offer support in many ways including providing crisis grants, lobbying the government on issues that affect the Armed Forces community, providing sport and art based recovery programmes and advising on benefits and money problems.
The Legion’s work is entirely dependent on the public’s generous support – so having footballers and fans alike wear the poppy with pride, will make a real difference to the lives of Service men and women, veterans and their loved ones.
