London Poppy Day

London Poppy Day is the flagship fundraising event for the Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal and will take place on 29th October 2026.

 

This one-day city charity collection is a unique volunteering opportunity where you can collect donations alongside over 1,000 currently serving personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, and over 2,000 veterans, volunteers, and supporters. 

What to expect:

  • Complimentary travel on the TfL network has been granted for authorised volunteers only on London Poppy Day itself, 29th October
  • Complimentary travel with Network Rail has been granted for authorised volunteers only. This covers one standard class return journey between a 'home' station in Great Britain and any London Terminal. The travel offer applies on London Poppy Day itself, plus one day either side of the event (28th - 30th October)
  • Volunteers provided with food vouchers if volunteering for the day
  • Volunteers need to be available for at least two hours, though there is an option to volunteer for the entire day if preferred 

Volunteers have been at the heart of the Poppy Appeal for over 100 years, and by supporting us on London Poppy Day you’ll help make a real impact on the lives of veterans and their families.

You'll be available for a minimum of two hours, and can volunteer by yourself or with a friend, work, or community group.

Station or Sector Commanders are critical leadership positions on London Poppy Day.

These roles are ideal if you want to develop skills and experience in leading a team, are comfortable handling money, and are excited to be involved with high-profile community fundraising.

You will be involved with your London Poppy Day teams on a regular basis throughout the year, with more time required leading up to London Poppy Day.

About the Royal British Legion

The Royal British Legion is the UK’s largest charity dedicated to supporting the needs of the Armed Forces community, past and present and their families.

We provide lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel, starting after one day of service and continuing through life. This includes:

  • Financial support, grants and debt advice to help veterans and their families manage financial challenges and access benefits they are entitled to
  • Specialist support for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans through adaptive sport and outdoor activities at our Battle Back Centre
  • Six care homes for the Armed Forces community, including five that provide specialist dementia care

Alongside advice and support services, we champion the interests of serving and ex-serving personnel and campaign on key issues to help improve their lives and make their voices heard.

Every year we lead the nation in commemorating and honouring those who have served and sacrificed, distributing our paper poppies to raise vital funds to help today's Armed Forces community through our annual Poppy Appeal.
