As the leading champion of Remembrance, we at the Royal British Legion believe it is crucial for us to remember the service and sacrifices of the D-Day generation, so they are always remembered.

The Legacies of D-Day exhibition honours the lives and legacies of this generation, and the families who preserve their stories. Through the personal accounts of veterans, or their families’ memories, accompanied by specially-commissioned contemporary photographic portraits of them by Steve Reeves, we pay tribute to the D-Day generation that helped earn the freedoms that we know today.

The exhibition can be visited at the British Normandy Memorial, France and at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire, from 6th June. Find out about the veterans and see a selection of the photography below.

To mark the 80th anniversary, we also commissioned sand artist Kseniya Simonova to devise a creative interpretation of D-Day and its legacy. Kseniya is an artist who manipulates sand to bring stories alive. In this film, she traces the journey of one man and his family, from the outbreak of war to the beaches and towns of Normandy and on to the present day.
