The Royal British Legion is proud to offer our Youth Affiliation Scheme to all our local communities. This scheme helps to foster mutual support and encouragement between our RBL branches and youth organisations. The initiative aims to build strong community ties and promote shared values.
What is a Youth Affiliation Scheme?
The Youth Affiliation Scheme is an agreement between a local Royal British Legion branch and any interested and appropriate youth organisation. By joining the scheme, both parties commit to supporting each other's aims and objectives, providing help and encouragement within the community.
Benefits of Affiliation
- Enriched learning and development: Give young people access to meaningful opportunities such as Remembrance education, military knowledge, guest speakers, and support for programmes like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
- Stronger community connections: Build lasting links with a local RBL branch, helping young people take part in community events, fundraising projects, Remembrance activities, and local volunteering.
- Recognition and shared purpose: Celebrate the affiliation through official certificates, badges or plaques, while helping young people develop respect, service, and understanding of the Armed Forces community.
How to Apply?
Step 1: Agreement of Affiliation
- All Affiliation requests should be discussed between the youth organisation lead and the local RBL branch lead. The RBL branch will then complete an affiliation application form, ensuring that both parties understand and respect each other's aims and objectives.
- Using designated points of contact from the application form, a member of RBL staff will review and if appropriate, approve the affiliation. RBL County representatives will be brought in to promote and secure the relationship. An ‘Agreement and Notification of Affiliation’ will then be sent to the branch and youth organisation contact for both to sign and return, via a Docusign.
- Once the agreement has been confirmed, the youth organisation will receive its RBL Youth Affiliate certificate.
Step 2: Data Protection

Step 3: Badge and Plaque ordering
Uniformed affiliated units can order official badges for their members for their uniform.
All affiliated groups can order plaques. These can be purchased via the local branch by cheque or BACS. Orders are consolidated monthly and delivered to the branch.
