Every year, thousands of people take part in the Field of Remembrance by writing a personal message on a Tribute to honour our Armed Forces community. Each Tribute may only carry a few words, but together they form a shared act of Remembrance.
Your heartfelt Tributes will be placed in the Field of Remembrance at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens (National Memorial Arboretum). This special place is one of the UK’s dedicated areas of Remembrance. With more than 400 memorials spread across 150 acres, it provides a fitting setting for your Tributes.
Remembrance is not only about the past. It connects the Service of older generations with the experiences of today’s Armed Forces community, including those affected by more recent conflicts. This year is especially poignant, as we mark 35 years since the Gulf War and 15 years since the end of operations in Iraq. Your Tributes ensure their sacrifices are remembered and that those living with the impact of Service are never forgotten.

Join us at the Field of Remembrance at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens
Each November, thousands of people travel from across the UK to share in a deeply moving tradition that honours the memory of loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our Armed Forces. It is a moment that unites us as a nation and means so much to so many people.
Join us at the official opening of the 2026 Field of Remembrance at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens (National Memorial Arboretum) to pay your respects, visit your personal Tribute, and stand alongside others who understand what it means to remember. The Field opens with a special Remembrance service, during which we observe The Two Minute Silence at 11am. A bugler sounds the Last Post, and the Exhortation is read.

Visiting the Field

Directions by car: The Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens, DE13 7AR is signposted from Alrewas on the A38. Parking charges apply.
Directions by train: Nearest train stations are Lichfield City or Lichfield Trent Valley (5-6 miles)
Specific Field Location: The Field of Remembrance at the Remembrance Gardens will be located on the Naval Review, a grassed area approximately a 300 m walk from the Remembrance Centre. Find your Tribute and Tea
You are invited to join us for our ‘Find your Tribute and Tea’ event following the Opening Service at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens (National Memorial Arboretum).
Royal British Legion staff will be available to help you locate your Tribute and answer any questions. Light refreshments are provided, offering a moment to pause and reflect with others.

While all Tributes from this appeal are placed at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens (National Memorial Arboretum), Fields of Remembrance also take place in Cardiff, Belfast, and Gateshead.

The first Field of Remembrance
The Field of Remembrance began in 1928, when the Poppy Factory brought a group of disabled veterans to St Margaret’s Church at Westminster Abbey with a tray of poppies and a collecting tin.
What started as a small display quickly captured public attention and began a tradition that continues today.
98 years later, we still honour this tradition with our Field of Remembrance at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens, while the original Field of Remembrance at Westminster remains an important part of the commemorative landscape.
