London Poppy Day 2017

The capital came out in full force for our biggest fundraising event of the year

The Royal British Legion was joined by some famous faces and around 1,500 volunteers, hitting the streets of London in a bid to raise over £1 million for the 2017 Poppy Appeal, making it the largest one-day street collection of its kind in the UK.

We were supported by an army of collectors including uniformed personnel from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their supporters at tube and railway stations across the capital.

At Liverpool Street, Dame Barbara Windsor and Shane Richie met members of the Royal Gurkha Rifles with The Parachute Regiment Band providing the soundtrack.

At Waterloo, Royal Marine Commandos wowed crowds with combat displays whilst stars of Strictly Come Dancing, including Anton Du Beke and Darcey Bussell, collected donations from the public.

In street-entertainer style, magician Lance Corporal Richard Jones (winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2016) entertained crowds at Horse Guards Parade and office workers in Canary Wharf.
