Dr Watts lectures in modern history at Christ Church and among his research interests is Kent and the Great War. For this lecture he has researched the war memorial that is permanently displayed in St. Gregory's Church.

The memorial contains the names of over 140 parishioners who were lost in the Great War. This commemorative talk will reveal some of the stories behind those remembered, illustrating the effect of war upon this small, local community, whilst placing their sacrifice in the global context of the tumultuous events of 1914-1918.

As a way of expanding this fascinating subject, Dr Watts is hoping to contact relatives of those named on the memorial, who can provide further information and historical evidence about them for a community history project.
