Jack Smith joined the Royal Marines in 1942 when he was only 17. Two years later he was one of thousands of Allied troops taking part in D-Day.
As a pilot of a landing craft, Jack played a key role in helping British Forces land on the beaches of Normandy on 6 June 1944.
As a 19-year-old I was out there with my gun and heard all the noises overhead, with shots being fired.
D-Day 75
To mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day, Jack was one of hundreds of D-Day veterans who we took back to Normandy.
Voyage of Remembrance
Travelling on a specially chartered ship, they returned to the beaches they landed on 75 years ago to remember their comrades who never came home.
