Through your generous support at these events, we have already raised over a quarter of a million pounds for our welfare work.
For over 15 years the Legion has worked closely with the Seniors Golf Association to organise Poppy Appeal Golf Classics at golf clubs around the country. We aim to engage all club members for local events to raise money for the Poppy Appeal, celebrated with souvenirs, medals and lots of fun.
The Poppy Appeal Golf Classic is a chance for golf clubs around the country to hold a day, or an autumn monthly medal, in aid of the Poppy Appeal. Members can decide if it’s the whole club, the seniors’ section, ladies' section or whoever wants to take part!
D-Day 75 Golf Challenge
For 2019 we are launching a very special golf challenge to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
The idea is simple - we ask players in every club to play one round of stroke play and to beat a score of net 75 - full handicap allowance. We ask that each player commits to a minimum donation (usually from £3 to £5) and then to donate a set amount (usually £2 or more) for every shot above net 75.
Every player will receive a specially designed commemorative bag-tag, and the winner in each club (lowest net score) will receive one of our superb 'gold' medals.
The challenge can be played in June on one day, over a weekend, or even over a longer period of a week. Clubs are welcome to hold their Poppy Golf events whenever suits them, but June 6 may be a fitting time as it coincides with the D-Day anniversary.
Your golf club can also get involved in our D-Day themed quiz night, with some tricky golf questions thrown in. We’ll send you 21 questions and answers to help you host your own quiz. Donations to The Royal British Legion will also be greatly appreciated. Get in touch to get involved or find out more.
