Ynyshir

Each year, our Branch pays homage to our fallen of the past and present by visiting military museums across the country.

We try to ensure that we involve youngsters on these trips in order that they may learn of the sacrifices our military have endured for our benefit during the last century and the beginning of this century.

Places we have visited are the Imperial War Museum, London, Imperial War Museum Duxford, The Tank Museum, Bovington, the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton, and this year we are going to RAF Cosford.

In 2006-2007 major road works was carried out in our area which necessitated the re-positioning of one of the two War Memorials under our care.

On Sunday 6 May 2007, a rededication ceremony took place in the town of Porth (meaning 'Gateway') involving hundreds of members of the public, Civic Dignitaries, all Branches of our Armed Forces, and The Royal British Legion.

New tablets were added to the surrounding area of the memorial and names of all Service personnel who gave their lives and who were omitted from the original monument were included, and sadly this is kept fully up to date as modern conflicts incur casualties.

The Ynyshir Branch Memorial includes a small garden of Remembrance, and this is well maintained by members of our branch, local residents, and the local authority, in order that passers by can stop and admire, and also reflect as to its presence.

Every year we have two parades ie Armistice and Remembrance Parades, in both the areas of Porth and Ynyshir, which are well attended by members of the public, youth organisations, civil dignitaries, and Legion members, in order to pay homage to our fallen.

Our Remembrance and Armistice Parades in November.2011 were well attended by both those on Parade and by members of the public, and once again we thank the local public for their suppoert.

Sadly...we are going to lose our RBL Padre, Father Paul BIGMORE, due to ill health.

Father Paul has been a stalwart supporter of our Branch and has never missed a parade in all the years he has been our Padre. We all wish him the very best of health, and thank him most sincerely for his services.
