We are extremely proud and honoured that His Majesty King Charles III has been confirmed as our new patron.
The Royal British Legion has held Royal patronage since it was founded in 1921 and The King will be the fourth monarch to serve as our patron following Queen Elizabeth II, and George VI, and Edward VIII.
The King has been a long-standing supporter of the RBL’s work, attending the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance for the first time just days before his 20th birthday in 1968, joining the charity’s membership as an Honorary Serving Member in May 1976 whilst serving in the Royal Navy, and frequently undertaking engagements with the charity as The Prince of Wales.
The King has his own record of service with the British Military and comes from a family who have all served, leading to a close affinity with the Armed Forces community and the aims of the RBL.
King Charles first joined the Armed Forces in 1971 to complete an advanced flying course with the RAF before joining the Royal Navy. He subsequently served in a number of ranks and holds honorary titles across the Navy, Army, and RAF.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles became Commander in Chief of the British Armed Forces and now leads the nation in Remembrance at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.
The RBL is incredibly thankful for The King’s ongoing support as our new Patron.

Our D-Day 80 commemorative events
This year, we will mark the 80th anniversaries of D-Day and the other battles that helped the Allies on their path to victory.
We're inviting Normandy and WW2 veterans, families of the fallen, descendants, and members of the public to join us in commemorating D-Day 80. Full details of each event can be found on our D-Day 80 webpage.
  • Wednesday 5th June - Remembrance Service, Bayeux War Cemetery, France
  • Thursday 6th June - Remembrance Service, National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire
  • Thursday 6th June - National Remembrance Event and Legacies of D-Day Exhibition, British Normandy Memorial, France
Registration will close on Monday 25th March or when capacity is reached. Spaces at each event are limited, so please visit our website to register your details as a veteran or descendant, or enter the public ballot. We'll share more information about the other battles that helped the Allies on their path to victory in the coming months.
If you have any questions about these events, please contact the Remembrance Events team at RemembranceEvents@britishlegion.org.uk.

A timely reminder of the good work we are able to carry out with the funds raised throughout the year. Thank you to all our volunteers and thank you to everyone who contributes
