The Fred Perry Memorial Shield

Anyone who knew Fred knew he loved life and loved Tipton. He was involved in so many organisations it’s difficult to find a true Tiptonian who hadn’t been touched by his kindness.

Fred knew that organisations held the key to successful fundraising and championed links between the Royal British Legion and many other organisations.

Tonight we honour his memory by awarding this shield to the organisation we feel has significantly assisted the branch over the past 12 months.

Sandwell MBC

Tiptonrbl2014 8

This year’s recipient has not only assisted the branch with its fundraising but has led from the front, with their contribution to our campaigns for action.

They each year help us collect for the Poppy Appeal. They then organise a team of volunteers help used perform the laborious task of counting all the loose change.

In 2014 they instigated a Community Covenant group who work in partnership with local stakeholders, including Tipton RBL.

They help and support current and ex-armed forces and their families. They ensure our beneficiaries get access to the services they need including housing, schools and healthcare. In fact they had already agreed to all the points in our current ‘Insult To Injury’ campaign before it was even launched.

They are shining examples of how communities can truly work to the benefit each other.

The Len Whitehouse Memorial Cup

Len was a quiet man with a big heart. He inspired anyone who came into contact with him.

He understood that it was important to show future generations what had been sacrificed for them to live in today’s society and as a D day veteran he knew this from first-hand experience.

He was, to many, including myself, a true role model. The branch committee felt this award was a truly fitting way to honour his memory.

The Len Whitehouse Memorial Cup will be awarded annually to the individual who it is felt has gone above and beyond in their support of Tipton RBL.

Keith Wyke

Keith is a quiet man, much like Len. He puts the Legion at the centre of his life and represents the branch in multitude of ways.

Since joining Tipton RBL six years ago, this person volunteered to perform ceremonial duties as Branch Standard bearer a job, he still does, to an high level more than four years later.

He has recently taken on the extra responsibility of representing Tipton branch on both a RBL Group level and as our official delegate to County Conference.

Over the past twelve months he has also represented the interests of both the branch and the wider military community by becoming one of the key stakeholder of the Community Covenant Working group.

He works alongside other key agencies to ensure the needs of our beneficiaries are understood and the correct help and support  is available to them. This mans dedication and commitment to the branch, the RBL and the wider military community, serves as a shining example of what we all could achieve.
