The Legion was founded in 1921 as a voice for the ex-Service community and over 450,000 members continue to ensure that this voice does not go unheard. Although the needs of ex-Service people have changed over the years, we are still there to safeguard their welfare, interests and memory. British service people are in action around the world every day of the year. They know that if they need our support - now or in the future - the Legion is always on active duty for them.

The Legion is the custodian of Remembrance and is actively involved with the annual Remembrance Parade and Church Service.

In order to maintain its viability, the Committee is distinctly aware of the importance of recruiting new members. However, it is important to note that membership is open to anyone and that service in the Armed Forces is not a requirement. An active membership is essential if the Legion is to carry on its work of providing help to both active and former Service personnel and their dependants at a time when demands on the Legion’s resources are increasing year on year.
