Minutes of the Meeting held on 15 Jun 2016

 

  1. Meeting Opening: The Meeting opened at 19:10 hours with a homage to the fallen

     

  2. Present: There were 24 members and 1 guest present

  2. Minutes of the last meeting: Proposed: by Jim Mees, seconded by Arthur Ellwood, that The Minutes of the meeting held on 18 May 2016 be passed as read.Carried

 

5. Matter arising:

 

Steve Bush recently visited Birley Primary School to talk about “The Social Effects of WW1”. There will be another visit on Friday, 17th to talk about The Legion, with Bryan Green and Fred Hall.

Steve will have a stall at the school Community Day on Tue 21st June. All members will be welcome.

6. Agenda:

 

President: As a potential change of meeting venue, the July meeting will be held at The Angel Pub in Woodhouse, starting at 7PM. There will be light refreshments.

 

Wednesday 20th July

The Angel Inn, 59 Sheffield Rd, Sheffield S13 7EQ

 

Bryan Green will have a stall at The Eckington Summer Festival on Sat 2nd July, 1PM to 7PM. Offers of assistance will be welcome.

8. Treasurers Report:

 

Treasurer: 3W Fund: £ 990.25

Legion Fund: £ 324.84

Poppy Appeal 2015 (so far): £ 51,800 paid to RBL

 

This is a £10k increase on the previous year.

 

The Treasurer updated the meeting on the current state of stock, and the plans for the next few months, for Poppy Sales Items.

 

The “End of Year” accounts have been balanced with LOMAS, and the Treasurer received congratulations from the membership.

Saturday 18 June: Armed Forces Day Sheffield. Parade at 10:45am, Norfolk Row

 

Saturday 25 June: The Yorkshire Regiment 10th Anniversary Freedom Parade. Sheffield Station 2:30PM

 

Friday 1 July: Centenary Field Event. Celebration of the designation of Weston Park as a Centenary Field and commemoration of the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. 11am, WestonPark

 

Sunday 3 July:Battle of The Somme Centenary Service. 4PM Sheffield Cathedral

 

 

11. Other Business:

 

Bryan Green reported back on events at The National Conference. There was much discussion about the Increase of Annual Fees, Methods of Payment, and The Disbandment of The women's Section.

 

The Treasurer offered assistance to anyone having difficulties paying their subs.
