After VE Day thousands were still fighting in the Far East. Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) marks the day Japan surrendered on the 15 August 1945, effectively ending the Second World War.
In 2020, the Royal British Legion called on the nation to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day from home.
To mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, RBL supporters left messages to remember, celebrate and honour the brave Second World War generation.
At 9pm on Friday 8 May, the Legion took part in a UK-wide rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’ to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
Most people remember where they were or how they found out the Second World War was coming to an end. As the war ended in Europe, we share the VE Day stories of those who lived through it.
