Our members play an active role in the organisation and participation in Remembrance Services and have a strong ceremonial tradition dating back to 1921.
Alec Penstone was 15 years old and worked in a factory when war broke out in 1939. After volunteering as a part time (Air Raid Precautions) messenger during the Blitz he joined the Royal Navy.
Red poppies have been worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces community since 1921. Today the Poppy remains as the symbol of Remembrance at the heart of our Poppy Appeal.
