Donations from independent funeral directors selling Golden Charter plans have already raised an incredible £195,000 for The Royal British Legion and Poppyscotland. This year, the company is a proud partner of the Thank You movement and is aspiring to unite its network of independent funeral directors in remembering the sacrifices made by those in their local communities 100 years ago.
Many of the independent funeral directors who work with Golden Charter have been serving local families since long before the First World War. Later life planning has been an essential part of the lives of British families for generations, including during the World Wars. Whether they helped in the erection of a local cenotaph or planned memorial services for fallen soldiers, funeral directors will have been central in commemorating those lost to the conflict.
Golden Charter is reaching out through its network of over 3,000 independent funeral directors to uncover stories from that time. Its aim is to gather 100 of them; one for each day in the countdown to Armistice. Through creatively designed Thank You mailings, they will inspire independent funeral directors to remember the sacrifices made by their local communities. These will then be collated in a commemorative digital book, helping to build a national archive of stories we can be thankful for.
Suzanne Grahame, CEO of Golden Charter, said: “Together with our independent funeral director network, we have raised an amazing amount of money for the charities, since joining forces with The Royal British Legion and Poppyscotland two years ago.“With many of our network being long-standing, family-run businesses, the funeral directors’ family histories will also contain memories as far back as the First World War. Therefore, we would like to come together to say ‘Thank You’ to all of those who served and continue to serve in the Armed Forces to change our world.”
