What is Poppy Quest?

Poppy Quest is the new name for Poppy Walks, our popular walking event. We provide you with a map and a series of questions to navigate a route around the city. It’s a 10k challenge, testing your legs and stretching your mind along the route too.

What happens if the event is postponed?

We follow government guidelines and put the health and safety of our participants, staff and beneficiaries first and foremost. If it is necessary to postpone an event we will be in touch to offer a choice of transfer or refund. Full details are in our Terms and Conditions.

What time does the event start?

Start time: 

  • Poppy Quest London: times will be staggered from 9.30am, to meet guidelines at the time

End time: 

  • Poppy Quest London: the event village is open until 5.00pm.

    Rest assured, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the route before getting your well-deserved medal at the finish.

    Will the route be different from last time?

    The route for Poppy Quest changes every year so you’ll never do the same walk twice! We’ll have a completely different set of questions to answer and the route will get you to explore even more of your town or cities hidden secrets.

    Why isn't there a Poppy Quest near me and why are there less this year?

    We’re really sorry if there isn’t a Poppy Quest near you this time or if we have moved locations, we have to be careful about how much we spend to ensure that we raise enough money for our veterans, serving personnel and families In the future, we hope Poppy Quest events will spring up across the country.

    When will I get my Poppy Quest t-shirt?

    We endeavour to send your t-shirt two weeks prior to the event taking place. If you register after this point you may still receive your t-shirt through the post however if you don’t, there will be an opportunity to collect one or exchange your size at the race village.

    How much do I have to fundraise?

    Registration fees only help to cover the event costs – so fundraising is really important in helping serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. Reach £200 in sponsorship and you’ll receive a special medallion.

    Your fundraising enable us to make a huge difference to the lives of those that we support in our Armed Forces community.  Every year we are able to save lives, save marriages, keep families together, alleviate poverty, prevent homelessness, and improve physical and mental health – these are all life changing events enabling those we support to live safe, secure and fulfilling lives.

    How do I pick up my medallion for reaching £200 in sponsorship?

    This year, we have a special prize in store for participants that raise £200 or more in sponsorship. You can pick this up on the day by coming to the Collection Point and showing us your JustGiving page or your sponsorship form.

    Please note that if you are fundraising in a team you will receive one prize per £200 raised.

    What fundraising support will I receive?

    Our team are on hand to support you every step of the way. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a welcome email containing all the fundraising information and advice you’ll need.

    How do I go about raising money online?

    We’ll include all the information you need in your registration pack when you sign up to the event. You'll also receive a link to set up your online JustGiving page. Please remember to send us the link to your page so we can ensure all donations are credited to you.

    Can we fundraise as a team?

    Yes. This is very easy online as both Virgin Money Giving and JustGiving have facilities to set up team pages. Please remember to let us know the link to your page so we can ensure all donations are credited to the team.

    Can I Gift Aid my personal donations?

    Yes, if you are a UK tax payer. You cannot claim Gift Aid on a donation from a public collection or fundraising event, unless each individual donor has submitted a Gift Aid Declaration. For more information, please read our Gift Aid information.

    How can I pay in my fundraising?

    • The easiest way to fundraise is by setting up a JustGiving Page. Simply visit the Royal British Legion's JustGiving page and click the 'Fundraise for us' button.
    • You can also post a cheque or sponsorship form with your name and the event you’re fundraising for to: Mass Events Team, Royal British Legion, 199 Borough High Street London SE1 1AA.

    When do I have to submit my sponsorship money?

    We ask that all sponsorship monies are sent to us no later than eight weeks after the last day of the event.

    How long is the route?

    The course is approximately 10km, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop off at cafes around the route.

    Are there any age restrictions to participate?

    Anyone can take part in Poppy Quest, so feel free to bring friends and family of all ages.

    Can I walk on my own?

    Yes, of course. Many of our supporters sign up for the challenge as an individual. This can be a great way to meet new friends, if appropriate we’ll have a buddy up area in the event village so you can meet fellow walkers on the day. Alternatively, you can join our Facebook group page and ask some of your fellow Poppy Questers.  

    Is the route accessible?

    Yes, we always try and ensure our routes are easily accessible and that people of all abilities can take part. In some cases where stairs may be present then there will always be an alternative in place.

    Can my dog(s) come too?

    Yes, all our routes are dog friendly so feel free to bring them with you at our Poppy Quest events. Please make sure they are kept on their leads throughout the duration of the event and that you clean up after them.

    Can I volunteer at this event?

    Yes, we are always on the look out for volunteers for this event. You could be involved with helping us to set up or pack down the event, register participants, marshal the route, or hand out medals to all the participants after their challenge.
