Avondale Community Thank You Events
Avondale Community events in Southwark is leading a series of Thank You events to commemorate the 345 soldiers from Southwark who lost their lives in WW1.
The project aims to thank each of those who served by getting local community groups, schools and other artists to express their thanks through arts and crafts.
There are a series of workshops being held, from mosaic sessions, graffiti workshops, and poppy clay making. Each piece must encapsulate a poppy and will represent a Southwark soldier whose name and story will be written on the back. The workshops are being supported by a graffiti artist who is also creating a wonderful mural on the Avondale estate, getting local kids involved. The big piece of artwork will be auctioned at a final event on 25 October, where guests will be invited to come and browse the pieces of work and bid on them. All donations are being split between The Royal British Legion and the Chelsea Pensioners.
