Thank You celebration at St John’s Church Barmouth (3-10 November)
The First World War – The Centenary of the Loss of a Generation
- St John’s Church Barmouth
Working together, members of the local branch of the Royal British Legion, the churches of Bro Ardudwy and others are planning a week-long event from 3 – 10 November to be held in St John’s Church Barmouth. Monies raised from this event will go to support the work of the Royal British Legion in the local area.
The central theme will be The Centenary of the Loss of a Generation.
The central piece will be a specially created obelisk and displays featuring material on each of the names of the fallen on the various war memorials in the area stretching from Talsarnau to Bontddu.
Other displays will include one which looks at the impact the war had on Wales, conditions at home during the war, and of course war poetry and pictures.
Reading material, books, old newspapers as well as short film clips and photographs will also be featured.
It is hoped to be able to involve local schools in the project, by holding a competition for painting of poppies, and asking their help with gathering information.
The event will culminate in an Armistice Tea Party on Saturday 10 November 2-4pm
Acts of remembrance on Remembrance Sunday will take place as usual throughout the area.
We are looking for people to assist us in finding the information relevant to their own area, the local families that lost loved ones and additional resources that will enhance this act of remembrance. Please email Jan Cadwell at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
