South Herefordshire GC recently
held a very successful event in aid of The Royal British Legion,
raising £2,100, a wonderful achievement. The day is organised
annually and this was the tenth anniversary. Up to 30 teams can
take part and this year's winners (pictured below with Anny Reid,
Chairman of Gloucestershire County RBL, who presented the prizes)
were Roger Grigg, Terry Tillotson, Peter Turner and Chris Drew.
Very many thanks to all who took part, plus the Club and Ian
Corbitt, who organised the entire day. If you want to play in 2012,
Sunday 20 October is the date to put in your diary.

RBL Thailand raise £10,000 on Poppy Golf
Day
The idea for a Poppy Golf Day came about over a beer in Tropical
Bert's (the home of the Legion in Thailand) and we had the
inaugural Poppy Day Golf in 2010. This day proved such a success
that the next year was discussed and when we realised that 2011 was
the 90th Birthday of The Royal British Legion it was decided that
we would have Poppy Day Golf Tournaments in Pattaya, Korat, Chiang
Mai and Bangkok all at the same time. Three went ahead due to
flooding, Bangkok was unable to play, and will be having
their day belatedly on 5 February 2012 and it promises to be a
cracker of a day.
Over 300 golfers managed to tee off at the set time in three
locations around Thailand and thanks to our main sponsor the Royal
Bank of Scotland supported by Royal London 360 and the MBMG Group
we have already raised over £12,000 with one game yet to play. A
fantastic day that will certainly become an annual event, we are
already looking at adding the holiday island of Phuket within next
year's event.

LLay Branch
Llay Branch held their Poppy Golf Day to celebrate the
branch's 27th anniversary as well as the Legion's 90th. The
day was outstanding with excellent weather, resulting in excellent
golf being played and a stunning £3,455 raised for the
Poppy Appeal.
