The Royal British Legion Junior Golf Tournament

The Royal British Legion is well known for the extensive help it gives to veterans from conflicts in which British Armed Forces have taken part. With the current deployment of British troops in various parts of the world, many of our "veterans" are, these days, fairly young - yet still very much in need of the care we can provide thanks to your generosity.

Do you know a budding Tiger Woods? To involve younger people in the work of The Royal British Legion, we have launched the RBL Junior Golf Challenge.

The event is a national knockout tournament played as revised matchplay, with teams of four playing in pairs. Each pair play their opponents over the full 18 holes and the side winning most holes overall would be the winners. This differs from normal matchplay where one pair might win 3 & 2, for example.

The tournament is organised on a regional basis in the early rounds to minimise travel. Semi-finals and final will be held in one location and the Legion will host that event (for players and organiser).

The event is open to all registered Junior GC Members, with a maximum age of 18 (on 1st January 2012). Maximum handicap is 36 for girls and 28 for boys. Three-quarters handicap difference will be allowed.

A full list of Rules can be found here.

Of course, being a charity we would like to raise money for the Legion in the process, as well as introducing younger golfers to the activities of The Royal British Legion. We'd hope that Golf Clubs might be able to sponsor their young players, or that friends and family might get involved. We plan to have souvenirs for each player, showing that they have taken part.

Draw and results

Second Round Draw 2012

The awful weather has played havoc with the first round matches, several of which are still to be played. However, many thanks to those who did play, often braving terrible conditions to do so.

As we had so many teams entering this year (wonderful - thank you !) there will be a couple of rounds with odd numbers so tat we get down to the correct numbers in due course - 32, 16 , 8 etc. This will mean a few byes and also an extra game for just a few teams, though I am trying to be as fair as I can on this.

So, below you will see a partial Second Round draw. Matches should be played, if possible, by June 8th though if you go past that date it is not a huge problem - we have one long, glorious, hot summer to get all the matches played (we hope).

Home teams should contact their opponents to arrange the date and will the winners of each match please report the result within 24 hours of the match. PLEASE read the Rules and ensure that any play-off holes and local Rules are explained to your visitors before the matches begin.

Thank you and Good Luck !!
