The Royal British Legion is calling on Government to increase payments to elderly people below the poverty line. Here's how we would like you to help.
Meet with your MP
Send a letter to your MP
Email your MP
A face-to-face meeting is the most effective way to get a message across. Remember, even if you didn’t vote for them, they are still your representative in Parliament. You have a democratic right to speak to them.
Don’t know who your MP is? Just go to the website http://www.theyworkforyou.com/ and put in your postcode.
Many MPs hold surgeries in their constituency which they advertise in local newspapers. However, you can set the meeting up by writing to them at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA. (Don’t worry if Parliament is on recess - the letter will be forwarded on to them in their constituency.)
Alternatively, you could email them through the website http://www.theyworkforyou.com/
You will need to read the Campaign Summary in advance to make sure that you know what to say when you go into the meeting.
MPs will sit up and take notice if they receive large numbers of letters on the same subject.
Don’t know who your MP is? Just go to the website http://www.theyworkforyou.com/ and put in your postcode.
We have drafted a letter which you can download here. After you’ve filled in your MP’s name, and your contact details, you could send this off to them. You need to add your details so that your MP can reply, and also so that he/she is sure you are his/her constituent. (If Parliament is on recess you can still write to the House of Commons – your letter will be forwarded on to the MP’s office.)
Alternatively you could write your own letter to them. If you want to do this, you can use information from our Campaign Summary to help you draft your letter.
We have a very useful tool which enables you to send an email to your constituency MP. Its quick and its easy. Click here to do this. You could also to ask him/her to sign our Early Day Motion.
You can help by donating to the Legion to allow us to continue our important campaigning work
It would be very useful if you were able to email us at rationing@britishlegion.org.uk to tell us what you’ve done to support us. We’d like to get an idea of which MPs are receiving the most mail or attending the most meetings so we can focus our efforts more effectively.
