Medals

The Royal British Legion has compiled useful information and answers concerning medals, Service records and memorials

If you are looking for information on the issue of medals, please contact the Ministry of Defence Medals Office, who are responsible for checking individual records of Service and discovering whether medals have already been issued.

Official Lapel Badges

A lapel badge is available to order from The Legion, featuring a representation of the badge of the Order mounted on a button of pink and grey.

Am I allowed to wear an official lapel badge?

Those holding any grade of the Order of the British Empire and those in possession of the BEM are automatically eligible to receive and wear an official emblem.

Where can I order an official lapel badge?

Badges cost £15 including p&p, and can be obtained by writing to:

Toye Kenning and Spencer Ltd
Regalia House
Newtown Road
Bedworth
Warwickshire
CV12 8QR

Contact can also be made via the company website, www.thetoyeshop.com

Am I eligible for other badges?

Please explore our Recent Awards information for more information about different badges and eligibility for the below options:

  • Ex-Service Veterans Badge
  • Merchant Seafarer's Veterans Badge
  • Bevin Boys Badge
  • Women's Land Army/Women's Timber Corps Badge
  • Air Transport Auxiliary Veterans' Badge
  • Bletchley Park Commemorative Badge
  • Elizabeth Cross.

Unofficial Medals

Unofficial medals are those not awarded by, or approved for wear by, the Sovereign. Legion officials (particularly including Standard Bearers and Parade Marshals) should not wear them, and the Legion’s position is to discourage the practice in general, as it detracts from the importance of official medals worn with the Queen's permission
