Skydiving over Northern Ireland to support the Legion

The skydive centre Garvagh, setting for the joint partnership initiative between The Royal British Legion and Moonjumper, celebrated Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June in style, with a series of tandem poppy jumps and fun for all the family.

Armed Forces Day - skydive

SSgt Crowther with a young friend on Armed Forces DaySSgt Geoffrey Crowther of the Chelsea Pensioners stated: "It was my privilege to be involved in this fantastic event and honour the contribution that our Armed Forces make day and daily, facing death and injury in every corner of the globe. It is only fitting as we remember them we raise sponsorship to support their welfare needs through the fantastic leading of The Royal British legions Poppy Jumps."

Samantha Creighton, Community Fundraiser for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, has always wanted to do a Tandem Skydive, but the opportunity never presented itself. In April 2009, four days after her 36th birthday she finally got her chance.

Her dive was done as part of a charity partnership with Moonjumper and as a precursor to main fundraising event associated with Armed Forces Day.

She says, "this was the most exhilarating, life changing and amazing experience that I have ever done. If I can take the plunge through the clouds, so can you!"

Asked why she did it, Samantha said, "Our Armed Forces face fear, death and conflict every day with resilience, humour, dignity and pride and if we can do one small thing to make their lives or their families' lives better, I am honoured to do it, so if you want to join us please call".

You can view Sam's dive and the work of the Skydive Centre in Garvagh on the video below.
