Telephone Fundraising

At the Royal British Legion, we use telephone calling as part of our annual fundraising programme as it increases public awareness of the success of the Legion’s work providing support to the whole Armed Services community and their families.

About telephone fundraising

It is extremely cost effective in the long term and the reliability of income generated allows The Legion to plan effectively, meaning we are able to deliver services to those who need them. 

This form of communication will only ever be used to talk to new and existing donors who have expressed an interest in, or are already actively engaging in, our work. We will not call a supporter more than once every six months and we do not use this channel for cold calling purposes.

We do understand however that some supporters may not wish to interact with The Legion by telephone therefore they can let us know at the point of calling or by contacting our Supporter Care Team on:

On receiving confirmation that a supporter does not wish to be contacted by telephone, we will then ensure that this person is not called again. We ask fundraisers to be sensitive to the supporter’s response and respect every donor.

We employ a fundraising agency to manage our calling activity. This agency was founded in 1990 by fundraisers committed to social change and it is a member of the Institute of Fundraising (IoF) and the Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB). To date the agency has raised over £1billion for good causes.

The Royal British Legion is also a member of the FRSB’s self-regulatory scheme. As a member of the scheme, we follow the Institute of Fundraising's strict Codes of Fundraising Practice and comply with the key principles embodied in the Codes of Our Fundraising Promise.
