Peter and Ken small
Peter receives the Certificate and Trophy from Ken Draper

It was fully intended to make a real fuss of Peter Styler at the Annual Conference 2009 but due to sickness, he was unable to attend at the last minute.

At each subsequent Quarterly Meeting threafter, he was doing other things and still could not attend until the Meeting at Offenham on 17th September, 8 months overdue we managed to get him there. If questioned, he would tell you quite casually and without feeling that he had marked up 50 years as Poppy Appeal Organiser. Little did he know that after enquiries at the Poppy Factory and HQ, Ken Draper discovered that he was the one and only PAO, in the history of the Legion, to complete 50yrs. Well, it is 52yrs now to be precise because he started in 1956 on the sudden death of his mentor, the previous PAO. Not being married, Peter had the freedom of the house when he was getting the trays and money boxes sorted and he told me there is barely room on the stairs and landing because trays are stacked both sides. The Redditch Branch Members, to which Peter is a Member and their current Chairman, are enormously proud of Peter's achievement.

Because this was a unique Award, HQ had a specially designed Trophy made which is pictured below. Despite the fact that he tended to play the whole situation down, you could feel the sense of pride welling within him after the Presentation by Ken Draper, a Member of the Redditch Branch but also a National Trustee of the Legion. WELL DONE PETER.
