Remembering those who gave their lives in
Singapore and Thailand

The Worcester County Committee were proud to have our County Standard taken to the Far East for the Remembrance period 2010 and this was Carried by Derril Green, County Standard Bearer who accompanied the RBL Far Eastern Prisoners of War (FEPOW) Remembrance Tour to Singapore and Thailand 5-18 November 2010.

Services of Remembrance were held at Kranji Commonwealth War Cemetery in Singapore, Kanchanaburi and Chungkai Commonwealth War Cemeteries in Thailand.  An Armistice Service was held at The British Embassy in Bangkok on Sunday 14th November, Remembrance Sunday.

In Singapore, the Tour included a visit to the Changi Murals, the Changi Museum and The Battle Box at Fort Canning - where the surrender of Singapore was signed.  In Thailand, the tour took a train journey along the Burma-Siam Death Railway, when we had the opportunity to walk across the Bridge over the River Kwai and walk through Hell Fire Pass.  Hell Fire Pass caused many problems for the POWs who had to blast through solid rock to create the railway cutting.

The Tour was accompanied by a 90 year old veteran who had worked on the Death Railway and was accompanied by family members of some POWs who have since passed away.
