Evesham Branch

Evesham is a beautiful ancient Market Town with a wealth of historic timber framed buildings, set in the bend of the River Avon. It is in the heart of a thriving tourist area situated between Birmingham in the North and Bristol in the South and attracts visitors all year round but mainly in the summer months from all parts of the UK and worldwide.
The setting for the Memorial is elevated on top of a hillock overlooking parkland,

It is with much regret that the branch is ageing very quickley now and more positions have become vacant with nobody to fill them. Anyone willing to help with this problem to keep the branch going, we will be very pleased to hear from you through the Branch Chairman above or on 01386 443923.

Evesham Branch CommitteeThe Evesham branch is a Founder Member of the Legion

and has proudly carried out their duties as set out in our Royal Charter from 1921 to date without thought of remuneration for time or expenses incurred in the work carried out so diligently for the last 90 years.

Bengeworth historically, was a village separate from Evesham so we hold a second Remembrance Parade on the Sunday following the one held in Evesham. This gives the Bengeworth residents the opportunity to Remember their Fallen as well.

Our active Members are still a highly dedicated bunch but the 'born too soon syndrome' is catching up on us all so we are looking for new members to replace us and continue the work in supporting our troops if the need arises. Anyone interested in coming in to help out will be welcomed as New Members.

Please contact Jeff King on 01386 443923 or nosmo2allardene@aol.com for further details.

We were sorry to lose our Standard Bearer Jodie Millward who joined the Royal Air Force when she reached the ripe old age of 18yrs. Our loss was their gain but we now have another Air Cadet who has taken her place and those watching our Parades will see more of Adam Stockford who is a Sergeant in the Cadets.

History Repeats itself because Adam is now studying hard to become a doctor and will enhance his studies in October of next year, so will have to retire from Standard Bearing to devote more time to gaining his qualification and will then join the Royal Air Force. Should anybody be interested in taking up Standard Bearing, we will be pleased to hear from you through the Branch Chairman above.

Our celebrations for the 90th Anniversary went well having an early start with a Concert by the Waterloo Band and Bugles The Rifles, a celebrated Military Band based in Oxford. As well as various smaller Events, we ended the celebrations on 14th October 2011 with another Concert by the Avonbank Brass Band, based at Bengeworth in Evesham. This is another Band of high repute and they did us well.

We now have the Remembrance period in full swing and are all working hard to try to beat all previous records for the Poppy Appeal and in honesty, we are looking forward to having a bit of time to ourselves.

Please take a look at the Commonwealth WAR GRAVES page. It contains details of our Canadian Allies who died locally, mainly during training.

We thank you for looking at our pages.
