Royal British Legion Branches in Worcestershire
Branches are listed alphabetically within Groups and those that

information pages. Please use the links where available to access
these.
Please support our Troops and knit for
them.
Group formations within the Legion are optional and have no
officicial status but many counties, particularly those with with a
large number of branches, find they have a vital function.
The Legion is a very large organistation and one of the main
problems is the difficulty of communicating with them all. Well run
Groups can help to alleviate these problems by providing branches
with a localised contact point where problems can be aired
Fifty-eight branches including six sub-Branches make up the
Legion presence in Worcestershire and between them they have a
total membership of 6,037 which includes the following types of
Membership: Youth - 7; Life Members - 36; Men - 5,284;
Women - 742. It is disheartening that these figures tend
to diminish each year and deep thought is currently going on at
County Level to alleviate this situation. The losses over last year
amount to 4.6% which represents a loss of 2,887. This
information is based on figures issued from HQ in March
2010.
Of the 58 Branches, 9 of these are Founder Members of the Legion
and have therefore served the Serving and ex-Service men and women
and their dependants for 90 years. They are as follows:

We are a Membership Organisation and as such, the membership has
a great deal to say and decide, about the running of this great
organisation of ours. Ideas come initially from these branches and
with the approval and backing of the County Conference, are sent to
Headquarters for inclusion in the Agenda as a Motion for discussion
and decision at National Conference. Delegates from the Branches
meet annually at a different venue each year when these Motions are
debated at length and if passed, the Headquarters team take over
and refer each matter to MPs or whoever else may be concerned,
requesting their action accordingly. We were once referred to in
Parliament as "the sleeping giant" but if this were ever true, we
awakened many years ago and despite the continued losses in
membership, there is no slacking in the work done at branch level
in keeping our serving and ex-Service men and women and their
dependant's needs and welfare forcefully in the mind of those able
to improve on their status at Government and other levels.
These branches are listed in Group Formations and Branch Officers
can be located by clicking on the Branch name. Some may have
entered information on their history or other such information on
the highlights of the year.
There is a Worcestershire County Holding Branch which was created
to take members who were currently serving in HM Forces until their
discharge from the Services and eventually settling down in a
permanent location when membership of their local branch could then
be sought. This branch is administered by the County Secretary. We
now have a Single Membership system which means that everyone over
the age of 18 are classified as 'Full Members' which only until
2007, was the status for ex-Service men and Women.
Whether you are ex-Service or not, to qualify
for membership, you will be expected to support the
aims and objectives of The Royal British Legion as laid down in the
Royal Charter.
