Charter motions

CHARTER MOTION 1
Page 18, Rule 49, line 2 delete full stop, and insert ", on the repayment of the current sum identified in Rule 48, or the badge remains in the ownership of the member."

CHARTER MOTION 2
Page 4, delete current Article 3(c) and insert new Article 3(c) as follows: "(c) to relieve suffering, hardship and distress to spouses, children, dependants and family members caused by the injury, death or absence of those serving in the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force on Regular, Reserve or Auxiliary engagements;"

Page 3, Article 2, delete "Dependant, spouse and children" and insert "Dependant, spouse, children and family members".

Page 19, Governing Regulation 2, insert after the definition of "Dependants": "Family members: any parent, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, niece, nephew, stepfather, stepmother, half-brother or half-sister of a beneficiary."

GROUP A - Welfare (Internal)

MOTION 1
This Conference requests the Board of Trustees to seek practical ways of helping those leaving the Services to re-settle into civilian life without falling foul of the law and to give Branches a leading role in this endeavour.

MOTION 2
This Conference views with dismay the decision to cut the Immediate Needs Grant budget and urges the Board of Trustees to rescind this decision.
Gillingham, Dorset; Newhaven, Sussex - MOTION CARRIED 

MOTION 3
This Conference is concerned about the recent change in policy with regards to beneficiaries having to be in receipt of a means tested benefit to qualify for a break at a Legion Welfare Break Centre and requests the Board of Trustees to remove or rescind this policy.

GROUP B - Remembrance, Fundraising and Publicity

MOTION 4
This Conference urges the Board of Trustees to publicly denounce those people and groups that use or intend to use for political ends Acts of Respect and Remembrance for those members of our Armed Forces who die in the Service of their Country.

MOTION 5
This Conference requests that trays of Poppies and collection boxes be collected and removed from shop and other premises on 12 November. If the 12th falls on a Sunday, the date for collection will be 13 November.

Amendment: In the first sentence, immediately before "12 November", insert "or after", and delete the second sentence.
York - AMENDMENT CARRIED so motion now reads:

This Conference, with the aim of excluding requests to those who are already members of the Legion, requests that a review be carried out of the overwhelming amount of fund raising and corporate literature being sent out.

This Conference, being mindful of the changes to membership in Version 6 of the Royal Charter and Schedules dated 31 October 2009, asks that the changes to Governing Regulations 3(b), 3(c) and 4(b) be rescinded forthwith.

This Conference requests the Board of Trustees to ask the MoD that Other Ranks of all the Reserve Forces who have been awarded the Service medal for their Reserve Forces Service be authorised to use post nominals after their name.

This Conference requests that the Board of Trustees approaches HM Government to grant pro rata pension rights for regular ex-Service members who were discharged before 5 April 1975.
South Staffordshire - MOTION LOST

MOTION 15 *
This Conference urges the Board of Trustees to lobby HM Government to make (16) a commitment to ensure meaningful remunerative occupation appropriate to their condition for every Service war casualty.

They will not be debated but a statement may be made by the Board of Trustees before the vote is taken. If formations have new information on the subject which they would like included in the Board's statement it should be sent to the Director General as soon as possible.
