The Poppy Appeal in Sussex

Each year, in early November some 30,000 Legion volunteers take
to the streets with poppies and collecting boxes, raising millions
of pounds for the Poppy Appeal.
The money collected at this time and from numerous other
fundraising activities throughout the year, goes to providing help
and support to serving and ex-Service men and women and their
dependants.
So far the total in Sussex for the 2010/2011 appeal is
£1,186,892.66 with more still coming in from various
Fundraisers.
POPPY SHOP OPENS IN SOUTHWICK.
The people of Southwick will shortly have the opportunity to
support the work of The Royal British Legion by buying their
poppies and making donations at a POPPY SHOP in SOUTHWICK
SQUARE.
The shop will open between 9 am and 3 pm from October
29th until November 12th. and will
be run by members of the Southwick Green branch of the Legion.
Last year the shop raised over £600 and the branch is hoping to
top that amount this time.
The £600 went towards a total of nearly £7500 that was raised by
the branch last year, every penny of which went towards
helping serving and ex-service personnel and their families.
Not just those who fought in the two World Wars, but also
those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those
still fighting today.
Poppy People
We always need new volunteers -
Poppy People - to assist with Poppy Appeal collecting in
Sussex.
Without volunteer collectors out there on the streets, without
appeal organisers planning the collections, this great cause - that
helps thousands of ex-Service men and women every year - would
grind to a halt.
And we urgently need to recruit more people as many of our
current volunteers are retiring from active duty. Add to this the
ever increasing demand on the Legion's services and you can see we
need your help more than ever.
Please contact our Poppy Appeal Fundraiser's if you are
interested in helping.
