Poppy Appeal Clay Pigeon Shoot

27 November 2009 - 13 October 2011

100 plus clay shooters from Sussex and the Home Counties combined with over 50 local cadets from ATC and SCC to raise £4221 for the Poppy Appeal a month ago.

The first Sussex Poppy Clay Shoot was held at Northall Farm Clay Pigeon Club near Fletching at the end of August and thanks to perfect weather and the generosity of Dan and Jan Kerwood, who provided the venue completely free of charge, a great day was had by all.

Cadets who took part in a 'taster day' were funded by their affiliated Branches and in one case by the local RAFA  Branch.

Denise and Julian Carr, assisted by Keith and Fay Baker ran a highly successful raffle which contributed £750 towards the total raised for the County's Poppy Appeal. The event was sponsored by the shooting press, local gun shops throughout the county and the national manufacturers of the clays that were busted in their thousands during the day.

Prizes were presented to the successful shooters by Lt Col David Stephens OBE, DL on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex.

Outgoing County Manager, Mike Paine was delighted with the result and plans to organise a similar fund raising event next summer and hopes to double the numbers taking part and contributing to the Appeal.

The County Chairman, Martin Forde told the participants, "This event involved very few members of the Legion, with the exception of the Fletching Branch and gave our supporters in the shooting world from outside the organisation the opportunity to have some enjoyment whilst making a significant contribution to the Charity. The funds raised today, will pay for some of the increasing assistance we are giving to the ex-service community in Sussex."
