Legion in the Community

The Royal British Legion plays an active role in the local community, and we rely on the help of our members to carry out our work in their local areas. There are many ways people can help and become involved, and it is essential to our work for the serving and ex-Service community.

To raise public awareness of what the Legion does in our community and encourage more people to get involved with the welfare and membership activities of the Legion, we participate in various events and activities such as:

  • Local Fetes/Fairs
  • Open Evenings
  • Concerts
  • Armed Forces Day (previously Veterans Day)
  • attending Carnivals, Military Air Shows & Military Open Days.
  • Local business shows

The Legion at the This is Spain Show

Members of the Orihuela Costa and District Branch volunteered to man the Legion stand at the This is Spain Show last weekend.  They worked tirelessly to tell visitors of the many Branch activities taking place as well as welfare and poppy factory information, and dealing with a wide variety of other enquiries  The team recruited more members for their active Branch which meets at the Olympia Restaurante, Mil Palmeras on the third Thursday of the month.

Shows and exhibitions allow the Legion to raise awareness of the huge amount of welfare work carried out in the District area.  There is a team of voluntary caseworkers who assist and support Legion beneficiaries.  The Poppy Appeal monies collected in the District North area of Spain are retained for such work and thanks goes to all the British and other European residents and business owners who assist the Legion not only during the Poppy Appeal time but through the whole year.  Without this generous support the Legion would find it difficult to help so many people.
