We are here to administer and support the delivery of welfare
services and the membership and fundraising activities of the
Legion's branches throughout District North of Spain.
Membership of The Royal British Legion is available to all
adults and nationality, not just members or ex-members of the
British Armed Forces and we always welcome new members. Drop into

2011 Poppy Appeal Total Revealed......
A staggering 134,131.18 Euros was raised in the
District area during 2011. This amazing total was 25% higher
than the previous year! Tony Dengate, the Poppy Appeal
Co-ordinator thanked all those who gave of their time, and money,
to help raise this total which will go to assist our
beneficiaries.

Presentation of the Recruiting and Retention Award

Eddie Hefferman Overseas Trustee, was delighted to present
members of the Benidoleig and District Branch with the 2012
District Recruiting and Retention Award. The Branch had
shown the highest number of recruits in the previous three
years. The Certificate was presentated at the recent District
Conference in Alicante

District Awards Presented
Two members of the District Committee were presented with
District Awards. Wendy Dengate and Peggy Wyatt received their
framed certificates for "Service above and beyond the normal
call of duty". This was the first time that Awards of
this nature had been presented in the District. Our Photo

Poppy Painting
Local wellknown and respected Spanish artist Ana Ayen very
generously donated a painting of poppies in order to raise funds
for the Poppy Appeal. It was decided to have a (secret)
auction with sealed bids and at the beginning of February we will
be announcing the name of the lucky person whose bid was the
highest!

Poppy Appeal Launch - Jávea - 18th October 2011

The 91st Poppy Appeal was launched at Jávea on Tuesday 18th
October. We were delighted to welcome the Major of Jávea,
Señor Jose Chulvi and other Councillors, members and friends of the
local Branches together with members of the press. Also
attending was local artist Ana Ayen who had donated an oil painting
of poppies.
We thank all the members, friends and businesses who assist us
raising money for the Poppy Appeal. The money raised here in
Spain supports those who are ex-service, and their dependants, at
times of great need.

90th Anniversary Celebrations - 2nd April

Invitation to meet the Prince of Wales and Duchess of
Cornwall

Four members representing the District North Committee attended
an official reception on 30th March at the British
Ambassador's residence in Madrid and were introduced to both the
Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. Chris and Peggy
Wyatt, together with Tony and Wendy Dengate were among 300 British
charity volunteers resident in Spain invited to attend the
reception during part of the Royal couple's official visit .
Chris, Chairman of District North said "It was a real honour not
only to have been invited to attend, but also to have the
opportunity to chat to both the Prince and Duchess. There was
a genuine interest in the work carried out by the Legion and all
the other organisations represented. It was also a great
opportunity to chat to members from a variety of organisations from
all over the country. The surroundings were beautiful and it
will be a day we remember for a very long time".

New District President announced
Chris Wyatt, Chairman of the District, is delighted to announce
that Paul Rodwell, the British Consul from Alicante, is to be the
President for the District North Area. Chris said "We are most
grateful to Paul for taking on the role and for all the help given
to us by his office in the past and also in fomenting closer
relations with the Spanish Authorities, especially for our
90th Anniversary celebrations. Paul was presented with
his Legon Lion Badge at the Alicante Consulate Office on23rd

90th Anniversary Celebrations - 2nd April in Alicante
A Press Conference was held at the Palacio
Provincal in Alicante on 7th April when the event was
launched. Our photo shows the Chris Wyatt, the Chairman and
members of the District North Committee, together with the Diputada
de Diputación de Alicante and Paul Rodwell, the British Consul from
Alicante.

Recruiting Award
The Annual Meeting of the District Conference was held in
Alicante on 15th January 2011 when almost seventy members
attended. The Chairman updated those present on all aspects
of Legion business. During the proceedings the District
Recruiting and Retention Award was
presented to La Val d'Albaida Branch as the Branch
showing the highest membership percentage increase over the past
three years. (This is only the second time this certificate
has been awarded.)

Poppy Appeal Total for 2010
At a Press Conference at the Casa del Cultura in Alfaz del Pi on
Friday 17th December, Elizabeth Bell, Vice Consul from the British
Consulate in Alicante revealed that the monies raised in 2010 was a
staggering
107,146.97
Euros
During the event, Long Service Awards were presented to both
Olive Battye and Pamela Dawson Tasker for their work for the Poppy
Appeal - both from the Benidorm Branch .

Knox Shield - Recruiting Award
At the Melia Hotel in Alicante in
September Peggy Wyatt, Principal District Recruiting Officer was
awarded with the Knox Shield Award from Eddie Hefferman MBE,
Overseas Trustee.
This is the third time District
North of Spain area has received this award. It is presented
each year to the (small) County or District that has shown the
highest recruiting figures.
Peggy reported she was delighted to
have received the Award on behalf of the Branches in the
District. She said "All our Branches work exceedingly hard
not only to recruit more members, but to raise awareness of the
Legion in general, its welfare activities and also raising funds
for the Poppy Appeal."
