The Poppy Appeal in South Staffordshire
Each year, in early November some 30,000 Legion volunteers take
to the streets with poppies and collecting boxes, raising millions
of pounds for the Poppy Appeal.
The money collected at this time and from numerous other
fundraising activities throughout the year, goes to providing help
and support to serving and ex-Service men and women and their
dependants.
2009 Appeal has raised £517,775.61.
2010 Appeal has raised £548,463.54.
2011 Appeal so far has raised £550,883.67.
• The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading service
charity helping Service personnel past and present and their
families
• From 2011, adaptive sports and adventurous training will
be crucial to The Royal British Legion's support to seriously
injured Service personnel, through our commitment to create, equip
and operate the The Royal British Legion Battle Back Centre, a
national centre of excellence for activity based rehabilitation to
help wounded, injured and sick Armed Forces personnel regain their
fitness and return to duty, or reskill and make a successful
transition to civilian life.
• The Legion is honoured to commit £50 million over ten
years to pay for the operating costs of the wider Personnel
Recovery Centre programme - the biggest single funding commitment
that the Legion has made in its 90 years.
• The recovery programme will help around 800 wounded,
injured and long-term sick Service personnel each year between 2011
and 2021.
• The Legion provides £1.8 million for Combat Stress to
provide treatment for mental health outreach services for those
affected by conflict
Poppy People
We always need new volunteers - Poppy People - to assist
with Poppy Appeal collecting in South Staffordshire.
Without volunteer collectors out there on the streets, without
appeal organisers planning the collections, this great cause - that
helps thousands of ex-Service men and women every year - would
grind to a halt.
We would like to recruit more people to help our current
volunteers. Add to this the ever increasing demand on the Legion's
services and you can see we need your help more than ever;
Despite the weather, street collecting can be an enjoyable and
interesting experience. Please contact our Community Fundraiser if you are
interested in helping.
