The Poppy Appeal in Nottinghamshire
Andy Smart is donating £2 from the
sale of his new book to the Royal British Legion
Each year, in early November some 30,000 Legion volunteers take
to the streets with poppies and collecting boxes, raising millions
of pounds for the Poppy Appeal.
The money collected at this time and from numerous other
fundraising activities throughout the year, goes to providing help
and support to serving and ex-Service men and women and their
dependants.
In 2010/11, Nottinghamshire raised over £515,000 (financial year
calculated from Oct to Sep).
Poppy People
We always need new volunteers - Poppy People - to assist
with Poppy Appeal collecting in Nottinghamshire.
Without volunteer collectors out there on the streets, without
appeal organisers planning the collections, this great cause - that
helps thousands of ex-Service men and women every year - would
grind to a halt.
And we urgently need to recruit more people as many of our
current volunteers are retiring from active duty. Add to this the
ever increasing demand on the Legion's services and you can see we
need your help more than ever.
Please contact our Poppy Appeal Coordinator if you are
interested in helping.
Message from our Poppy Appeal Coordinator
It was good to see so many PAO's and their helpers at the Poppy
Forum, I am looking forward to getting to know you all. A very
interesting morning with speakers giving a better insight as to how
the welfare side of the RBL works and a very Interesting talk from
Captain Sam Boudet Of the Mercian Reg telling us what it is really
like on tour in Afghanistan. I am very much looking forward to my
first appeal as County Poppy Appeal Co-ordinator and hope I will be
able to help you as needed. Please contact me through the County
Offfice.
