Volunteer of the Year Nomination
Volunteer of the Year Nomination
Mr Jack Robinson from Tyldesley Branch has been nominated the Year category in the Wigan Life Awards for his committment to the Royal British Legion.
The 72 year old has been a member of the Royal British Legion for 37 years and for over the last 12 years has been the Treasurer and Secretary of the Tyldesley Branch.
Jack has helped to collect money through the Poppy Appeal, visiting ex-servicemen in their homes, attends members funerals and helps bereaved families.
He said, " I do feel quite honoured to be nominated. the job is appreciated and I am pleased about that. I was an ex-serviceman in the Navy and i felt I wanted to do something for the ex-service people. we attend anyone that needs any help - we help with stairlifts, mobility problems, bereavements etc.
We have members who are ill who don't get out too often. It is something I take in my stride and enjoy it."
Jack, a father of two, with one grandchild and one great-grandchild, was nominated by the President of the Tyldesley Royal British Legion, Eric Scotson. He said, " Jack has done more for anybody than I have encountered. Each Branch has a person for each job, but he does them all, more or less. He always goes to members funerals and lends his support to families. He is a one man army."
