Latest news

Herts County Council have launch the 'Hertfordshire Covenant' - see the link on this website under News and Events.Slightly older news now;

Dear Colleague,

Thank you for telling Ken Clarke to "Leave it out!". Yesterday, he did!

The Government has listened to the Legion's campaign (to you!) and agreed to leave the Chief Coroner out of the Public Bodies Bill. This is a huge victory for bereaved Armed Forces families, a huge victory for The Royal British Legion, and a huge victory for you, a valued supporter.

The Chief Coroner will make drastic improvements to the way bereaved families are treated.

It would be helpful if you could express your gratitude to Parliament by saying "thank you" to your MP. We've created a suggested email that you can send direct from the www.leaveitoutken.org.uk site.

By emailing your MP, you have made clear to Parliament how important it is that our nation cares for bereaved Armed Forces families.

"We could not have won this campaign for bereaved Armed Forces families without your support. This is a victory not just for those families, but for everyone who emailed their MP in support of the "Leave it out Ken!" campaign. No doubt about it, your action has helped change a law for the better. Thank you."

Chris Simpkins, The Royal British Legion's Director General

"It means so much to see the coroners system changed for the better - this reform was long overdue. My family is so grateful to everybody who has emailed their MP and made their mark on this campaign. Thank you."

Gareth Turkington, whose brother, Lieutenant Neal Turkington, was killed in Nar-e Saraj, Afghanistan, on the 13th July 2010.

You can read the Legion's full reaction to the news here.

Thank you again for your support for bereaved Armed Forces families. We hope you will be keen to support our campaigns again in the future.

With warm wishes,

The Royal British Legion Campaigns Team
