The Poppy Appeal in the Royal County of Berkshire and Vale of White Horse
Each year during Remembrancetide, in early November some 30,000
Legion volunteers take to the streets nationally with poppies and
collecting boxes, raising millions of pounds for the Poppy
Appeal.
The money collected at this time and from numerous other
fundraising activities throughout the year, goes to providing help
and support to serving and ex-Service men and women and their
dependants.
In 2009/2010, Berkshire and Vale of White Horse smashed through
the three quarter million threshold for the first time, in fact the
annual record total is in excess of £882,000 (2010-2011). These are
outstanding achievements and testimony to a great deal of hard
work.
As of the end of January 2012, we have raised more than
£838,000.
Poppy People
We always need new volunteers - Poppy People - to assist
with Poppy Appeal collecting in the Royal County of Berkshire and
Vale of White Horse.
Without volunteer collectors out there on the streets, without
Poppy Appeal Organisers planning the collections, this great cause
which helps thousands of servicing and ex-Service men and women
every year would grind to a halt.
We urgently need to recruit more people as many of our current
volunteers are retiring. Add to this the increasing demand on the
Legion's services and you can see we need your help more than
ever.
Please contact our Community Fundraiser if you are interested
in helping.
