As part of The Royal British Legion, Poppy Travel arranges unforgettable travel - the experience of Remembrance. No other tour operator will understand your needs as clearly or have greater sympathy with your hopes and expectations - we've been providing this service since 1927.
2008 sees the launch of our new website www.poppytravel.org.uk and a comprehensive range of Battlefield Tours and Pilgrimages to all corners of the globe and to suit all tastes. We can also create customised tours for groups with specific interests and connections and have a flexible and affordable School Tours programme.
We can help you visit individual graves and memorials that are dear to you or put your Remembrance into context with a Battlefield tour lead by an ex-Service guide. Poppy Travel covers North and South Africa, Western and Eastern Europe and the Far East and are also noted for including remote and complicated areas such as Libya and Burma (Chindit areas and the Arakan) in our tours.
A free full colour brochure is produced annually which includes all destinations and other interesting information.
A programme of school visits is also produced annually, specially geared toward your curriculum and featuring the First World War, Normandy, Arnhem, Italy and Berlin.

Below is a link to the Poppy Travel podcast, which offers a taste of the type of tours and pilgrimages The Royal British Legion provides. This particular audio was captured at the site of the Battle of The Somme and the surrounding area and is just over 9 minutes in length.
The War Widows Grant-in-Aid Scheme is a Government operated initiative which enables war widows and widowers to make one visit to the grave or memorial of their Service husband or wife who died during overseas military service between 1914 and 1967.
Set up in 1985, the scheme is administered by the travel arm of The Royal British Legion, Remembrance Travel and covers the cost of all travel and accommodation. A carer is also welcome to accompany the widow or widower, for which the cost is covered.
The Legion has already helped to take widows and widowers to visit graves and memorials in a variety of countries including key European areas such as Belgium, France or Italy as well as in the Far East, for example India and Hong Kong. We have taken over 4,000 people to over 30 different countries.
Most of the visits are group visits, accompanied by a tour leader and medical professional but individual arrangements can also be made.
For further information contact Poppy Travel (details above) or visit www.poppytravel.org.uk.
The Legion organises tours for schools and specialises in taking 13-17 year olds on affordable visits to the battlefields of Europe. Advice can be given on pre-tour work to help students and staff gain the maximum benefit from their trip, and tours are accompanied by an expert guide with lectures, on-site briefings, videos etc to enhance and complement the curriculum. All arrangements include a free place for teachers on the ratio of one to ten students.

The Legion now have their own representative working at the Thiepval Memorial Educational Centre in the Somme. Lawrence Brown will be working alongside the current team at the centre to help bring the importance of Remembrance to visitors to the area. He is hugely knowledgeable, so if you are planning a trip to the Somme battlefields it would be well worth contacting him on lbrownrblthiepval@hotmail.fr
