Care Homes and Welfare Break Centres

A major part of our welfare work is to provide short and long term care for serving and ex-Service people and their dependants in Care Homes and Welfare Break Centres around the country. Our aim is to make the lives of those who stay there as comfortable as possible.

Poppy Homes - nursing, residential, day care

What we can offer:

seven Care Homes, for long-term nursing, residential, day and dementia care
four Welfare Break Centres, providing short-term breaks for those who may have had a period of illness, or suffered bereavement
an information database about non-Legion Care Homes available to the ex-Service community

Care Homes

When we welcome residents to our Homes, our aim is for them to live life to the full, with as much comfort as possible. All of our Homes are exclusive to ex-Service people and their dependants.

As well as care, every Home has a range of activities for residents to take part in, which are organised by an Activity Co-ordinator. There are plenty of opportunities to live life to the full, both by discovering new interests, as well as maintaining old ones. There is also a licensed bar in each Home, where many residents gather together.

Crosfield House

Crosfield House, is situated in Rhayader in the stunning countryside of mid-Wales, close to the Elan Valley. It has 58 beds, offers nursing, residential and dementia care, and is registered with the Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales.

Galanos House

Galanos House is situated on the edge of Southam, a small market town in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside. It has 60 beds, offers nursing and residential care and is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Maurice House

Maurice House is situated outside the coastal town of Broadstairs, Kent, enjoying picturesque views of the North Foreland lighthouse and the sea. It has 47 beds, and is registered for Nursing and Residential care.

Halsey House

Halsey House, is situated in Cromer, a picturesque town on the North Norfolk coast. It has 72 beds, and offers nursing and residential care, as well as a respite care facility and a well established day care unit.

Mais House

Mais House is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac location in the coastal town of Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex. It has 48 single en-suite rooms and three double rooms for couples, many of which have wonderful views over the garden. The Home offers nursing and residential care, and is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Lister House

Lister House is situated in the picturesque town of Ripon in the Yorkshire Dales. It has 60 bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, plus 16 beds in the new dementia wing. There is also a day care unit, five specially designed rooms for young, physically disabled clients and a small physiotherapy unit.

Dunkirk Memorial House

Dunkirk Memorial House is situated close to the village of Bishops Lydeard, eight miles from the bustling town of Taunton, Somerset. It accommodates up to 60 residents in spacious rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities. The Home offers nursing and residential care and is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Welfare Break Centres

Poppy Breaks - rest, relaxation The Legion has four Welfare Break Centres in Somerset, Merseyside, County Antrim and Yorkshire , and welcomes guests who are recovering from an illness, hospitalisation or bereavement and need a well-deserved break. For many people, staying at a Centre could be their first break in years, so every guest is made to feel welcome from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave. Guests usually stay for a two-week period (which may be free of charge, depending on the applicant's financial status). For further information please contact the Manager of the Centre.

Somerset Legion House

Somerset Legion House is situated on the seafront in Weston-super-Mare, with beautiful views over the Bristol Channel to Wales and Exmoor. It can provide welfare breaks for up to 75 people at one time, for one or two week stays. The comfort of guests is a priority and all of the rooms have en-suite facilities.

Byng House

Byng House is conveniently located on the Promenade in the North West resort of Southport, Merseyside. It has accommodation for 63 guests, including 5 rooms purpose built for those with disabilities.

Byng House is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment and the service has moved to The Royal Clifton Hotel approximately 100m along the promenade. The Royal British Legion have leased a wing of the hotel comprising 27 bedrooms, a lounge, bar and dining room, and these areas are serviced by Byng House staff. Our rooms at the Hotel do not have facilities for disabled guests unfortunately.

Our guests have the use of the hotel swimming pool and gymnasium and special rates have been negotiated with the hairdresser and beauty therapist.

This service will continue until Summer 2008.

Bennet House

Bennet House has a delightful position on the sea front in a quiet part of Portrush with spectacular views of the Causeway Coast and Scottish Isles. It has accommodation for 28 guests, including 2 rooms adapted for those with disabilities.

Alderson House

Alderson House is situated on the seafront on South Marine Drive, Bridlington, with uninterrupted views of the award winning south beach and the North Sea beyond.

A leisurely stroll into town will take you past the Victorian Spa Theatre, the picturesque harbour with views across Bridlington Bay to Flamborough Head Lighthouse and into a busy town centre with good shopping areas and local attractions.

It has accommodation for 50 guests with 8 rooms adapted for those with disabilities.
