Vic Lewis / Chris Stanfield is looking for Worthington family
We are trying to locate members of the Worthington family who originated from the Wigan area. On June 6th 1944, thirty one year old Sergeant Henry or Hendry Worthington lost his life in an accident in Colchester, North Essex. Sergeant Worthington was travelling in a military convoy when his Bren Gun Carrier exploded killing him. In the near future a new road is going to be named in his honour and we would like to notify family members about this. The parents of Henry / Hendry Worthington were Christopher and Margaret Worthington and the family lived in the Greengates area of Bradford Yorkshire at the time of his death. He rests at Undercliffe cemetery in Bradford. His service number was 3135624 and he was a Royal Scots Fusilier, 11th Battalian. Margaret Worthington's maiden name we believe was Collins and she married Christopher Worthington in Wigan. The children from this marriage we think are Henry or Hendry born June 1913; Agnes born 1914; Marion born June 1920; Mary C. born 1923; Margaret M born 1925; John J. born 1929. In 1936, before the war, Henry / Hendry married Margaret Connolley in Bradford. A child from this marriage we believe was Christopher A. Worthington born in Bradford 1941. We believe further that after the death of her husband in 1944 Margaret Worthington re married in 1947 to Denis D. Jones in Bradford. Vic Lewis, the principal researcher has so far had no success in tracing relatives. In June 2015 Vic contacted a Bradford newspaper 'The Telegraph and Argus' and an appeal was published in the Saturday 6.6.2015 edition Link here: http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/13316784.Appeal_to_find_relatives_of_Bradford_soldier_after_street_named_after_him/ If anyone thinks they know of family members or can help with our quest would they please get in touch. Many thanks. Chris Stanfield & Vic Lewis Colchester, North Essex.
