Sophie O'Sullivan

Daniel & Sophie O'SullivanSophie O'Sullivan 23, lives in Devon with her husband Daniel, a vehicle mechanic in the Commando Logistic Regiment Royal Marines, and their three children.

Sophie was part of Gareth Malone's BBC series "The Choir: Military Wives" which culminated in a moving performance of their single "Wherever You Are" at The Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance in November. The Military Wives Choir have released their single in support of the Legion and SSAFA Forces Help and are on track for a Christmas No 1.

With Daniel away on regular tours to Afghanistan, the family know how precious their time together is. Sophie found out through a friend that the Legion organise Poppy Breaks for Armed Forces families, allowing them to spend valuable time reconnecting, particularly when they are separated due to long periods of Service.

The Legion organised for the O'Sullivan family to spend a week in the beautiful Park Dean in Cornwall earlier this year when Daniel was back on R&R after before heading off on his third tour.

Sophie says: "The Poppy Break was the first family holiday we had ever taken together. I surprised Daniel the day before and it was so exciting for us all, particularly for our 4-year old, Isabella. We were able to not think about goodbyes, just enjoy being together."

Sophie O'Sullivan with daughter FiennaSophie met her husband Daniel at boarding school because their fathers were both in the military, so from an early age she had been part of an Armed Forces family. Sophie says, "Having grown up with military life, I like to move around and not settle in one place but it can be difficult to meet people. The choir has been fantastic to make friends and get help and support from people in the same boat as me, especially because I have young children, it has done me the world of good."

Sophie's youngest daughter Fienna was just two weeks old when Daniel left for his latest tour of Afghanistan from March to September 2011. Time flew by quicker than usual with Sophie's choir practise three times a week. She said that Daniel was very happy and reassured to know that Sophie had a support network while he was away.

Sophie is delighted that the proceeds from the Military Wives Choir single will be donated to the Legion and SSAFA Forces Help. "The whole choir is buzzing from this project and we're so pleased to be able to give back to two fantastic charities that do so much for the Armed Forces. After all the support my family has received from the Legion, I couldn't be happier."
