New Dementia Unit for Galanos House

With many more people living longer than ever before, research from the London School of Economics and Institute of Psychiatry predicts the number of people with dementia in the UK will increase to over 900,000 by 2020.

Nowhere is dignity more important than in the care of people with dementia. The Legion's latest Welfare Survey has identified the need for Dementia Units at all our Poppy Care Homes. Following on from the opening of the new Dementia Unit at Halsey House, plans are now underway to build one at Galanos House, our Poppy Care Home in the Warwickshire countryside.

Every person who makes their home in the new Dementia Unit will receive 24-hour specialist care and support from a team who are dedicated to caring for those with dementia. It has been carefully designed to provide a safe, homely, stimulating environment; a place where each resident's individual life history can be enhanced instead of forgotten.
