Byng House is conveniently located on the Promenade in Southport, a popular holiday resort on the northwest coast.

The beautiful Grade II listed building was refurbished in 2008 and a new 3 storey building at the side links the listed Georgian house to the rear Sydney Frankenburg wing. 

We provide 1 and 2 week Poppy breaks for up to 68 guests from the serving and ex-Service community and their partners/dependants. We have full disability access with many bedrooms suitable for disabled people. Guests who need care, are welcome to apply if accompanied by their own carer and by prior agreement with the Manager.

A variety of entertainment and social outings is provided via our House Committee Amenity Fund for guests to enjoy during their stay with us.

Local services & attractions

Southport and its surrounding areas are famous for their stunning beaches and coastline, which ooze natural beauty and wildlife.

Experience the thrill of the fair or the fast flumes at Splash World… or for something more tranquil stroll down the beautiful pier.

Culture lovers can get their fix from the Southport Arts Centre, Theatre and Convention Centre and the Little Theatre which have a packed programme of events all year round. Byng House has 3 free bus outings per week to local areas of interest and one evening outing each week to a local RBL club for entertainment, bingo and raffles.

How to apply

If you are a serving or former member of the Armed Services, or their dependant, spouse or widow, you will be welcome to apply for a break at Byng House.

Caseworkers from your local Legion Branch have the application forms and may be contacted via the Legion's County Offices. You may apply for a one week or a two week break which we will allocate when you come to the top of our waiting list.

Guests who need personal care are welcome if accompanied by a Carer which must be arranged in advance with the Centre's Management Team. Nursing care is not provided at any of the Legion's Poppy Break Centres however we do try and make our Centres as accessible as possible.
